John Mims to surface in Phoenixville

Chef John Mims says he's going back to his Louisiana roots with side-by-side restaurants on the main drag of Phoenixville.

Johnny's New Orleans Pizza Kitchen and Daddy Mims' Creole BYOB are to open soon at 150 Bridge St., formerly occupied by That's Italian and Paninis.

Mims says the pizzeria, to be open daily from March 13, will serve such New Orleans-style pizza offerings as jambalaya and white crab pie.

The BYOB, serving dinner only Tuesdays through Saturdays from March 19, will be similar to his onetime Carmine's BYOB restaurants in Havertown and Narberth.

Mims would not discuss the litigation between him and his former partner Howard Taylor. In January, a judge ordered Mims out of the kitchen of Mims Food + Drink in Wayne, citing a noncompetition clause in his agreement with Taylor that prohibited him from working within 10 miles of Carmine's, now in Bryn Mawr. The men opened Carmine's and a Philadelphia restaurant, Les Bons Temps, before a falling out last year. The case is under appeal. Mims' son Jon is chef at Mims.

The Phoenixville restaurants are 16.9 miles by car from Carmine's Creole Cafe in Bryn Mawr, according to Google Maps.

He is a theif. He will continue to burn bridges, leases and leave debts behind as he eventually works his way out to Pittsburgh.

Nah...that's not so. He is a great guy with food that will make your mouth water. Earl J sounds like somebody with an ax to grind. We welcome him to the 'ville and know that he will fit in well with all the food joints on the street.

If any of you who have positive things to say about mims had ever worked for him, trust me you would share the opinion of Earl. Mims is nothing more than a level b hustler with bad hair

It's real simple....Mr. Mims is a poor human being in so many ways. I've enjoyed his food....but I just can't get behind a guy like him. Some people just don't learn from their mistakes. It's a shame, he really does have talent in the kitchen.

We ate there last night. The food was EXTREMELY salty, unfit to eat. Too bad, a nice menu.
