"Proper Wine Storage 101" is the title of a free seminar offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday (10/8) at Pinot (227 Market St.).

Dan Soskin from Pinot and Scot "Zippy" Ziskind, a representative from Zipco, a nationally acclaimed designer and builder of wine cellars, will explain the whys and hows while covering various options, including freestanding units and whole-room conversions.

Ziskind will uncork two bottles: one stored property and one ... not.

    Before you attend this seminar, you should ask your wine store if their distributors shipped thier wines refrigerated from winery to retail shelf. What's the purpose of properly storing wines that may already be damaged before you receive them? This effectively rules out 99% of the wines that come through the PLCB SLO system.
