Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby at Horizons, shortly after its relocation to Seventh Street. (Photo: Jori Klein)

Seems like only yesterday that Rich Landau was cooking vegan at a counter inside a Willow Grove health-food store.

Fifteen years later, now married (Kate Jacoby) and with a son (Rio), Landau runs Horizons on Seventh Street just below South.

Horizons recently got approval for outdoor seating, and plans to renovate the downstairs room for an indoor/outdoor look, reminiscent of the nearby Beau Monde. He also will open for Saturday lunch with a small-plates menu.

And for us nostalgists, starting March 24 for a few weeks, he'll put on a tasting menu of updated versions of those 15-year-old recipes. The original menu featured a lot of sandwiches, salads and a few ambitious entrees. Take the grilled portobella sandwich with pesto, tomato and grilled onions (pretty visionary back then). He plans to  re-create it as portobella medallions in a grilled green onion salsa verde with roasted cherry vine tomatoes over smoked potato puree.
