Hold on a Speck there...

A delay is reported in Shola Olunloyo's restaurant in Northern Liberties.

Hold on a Speck there...

We've been in the countdown phase for Speck, the restaurant-solo debut of chef Shola Olunloyo, at the Piazza at Schmidt's in Northern Liberties.

An acquaintance who had cinched a res at Speck's "StudioKitchen" bar for this Friday got an emailed apology Monday morning:

"Unfortunately due to unexpected technical issues regarding some of the equipment we installed and overall construction, we have to delay our opening for six weeks to replace a few things. You are being issued a full refund of the payment you made immediately. In addition for the inconvenience we will be sending you an invitation to come to the opening of Speck Restaurant for a gratis dinner."

Classy way to handle the situation.

But a six-week delay!?

His camp says the delay will be "several weeks."

Olunloyo has been hosting private test dinners at an undisclosed location, and because the exacting chef is wary of the media, he's invited only those he trusts not to leak details.
