The grocery store-as-restaurant has been popping up as a trend.

Court Street Market in Brooklyn... Jeffrey's Grocery in the West Village.

Fairmount Grocery is coming to 19th Street and Fairmount Avenue this fall.

It will take the first floor of developer Daniel Greenberg's new four-story building - now under construction on a lot on the northeast corner - that will include 15 apartments.

Greenberg has cinched chef Chad Williams - a former longtime Jose Garces righthand man (Amada, Chifa, his early Iron Chef appearances) - to handle the food.

Greenberg says he's tapping into a "strong demand" for a neighborhood grocery store.

Fairmount Grocery will sell fresh, locally sourced foods as well as prepared foods. There will be a barista station, a demo kitchen, and 30 seats for dining with a potential for 30 more outside.

I really, REALLY hope there will be parking! Too many apartments without parking are being built in the neighborhood. I can't imagine the source of the "strong demand" for a neighborhood grocery...we have small grocery stores & produce stands on nearly EVERY corner, a Whole Foods that is about to triple in size, a market at the Philadelphian, a supermarket at Progress Plaza and, during the warm months, farmers' markets on Thursdays & Saturdays.

I hope there will be plenty of bike racks! There are just too many cars for the neighborhood and no need for another parking lot.

I moved to the city so I didn't have to drive.

Thankfully it is across the street from the Spring Garden nimby's control. If not SGCA would have done everything they could to have kept it a barren corner wasteland unless the Developer paid serious Fumoesque homage to the nimby Grand Popahs..........
