Gordon Ramsay to open restaurant in Atlantic City

Atlantic City has not had a lot of positive news lately.

Let's view the information that chef Gordon Ramsay will open a restaurant at Caesars in Atlantic City as a positive.

Ramsay, the cantankerous host of TV's Hell's Kitchen and formerly Kitchen Nightmares, is taking over the space soon to be vacated by Mia's, as chef/owner Chris Scarduzio plans to consolidate his life in Delaware County.

Staff at Caesars was just told about the deal today.

Mia's, which opened in 2005, is expected to bow out in mid-October.

Ramsay's eatery, to open in early 2015, will be a branch of his Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill, a British-themer whose concept and look exist right now at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Expect lots of beer - 40 of 'em on tap - and red British phone booths as decorative elements. Ramsay's outsized restaurant empire can be viewed here.

In the last several months, Caesars has brought in name-brand chefs Steve Martorano to Harrah's and Guy Fieri to Bally's, though it closed Showboat, which housed Scarduzio's steakhouse.

Revel's closing, meanwhile, has thrown a wrench into the empire of Jose Garces, who was forced to shutter A.C. branches of Amada, Village Whiskey, and Distrito, which employed 230 people.

I hear that the closings will cost Garces' company $14 million a year in sales.
