Gigi Italian Bistro: Cozy BYOB in Manayunk

Owners Craig Wilson and his fiancee, Jacqueline Au, bill Gigi as an homage to the mothers and grandmothers who have made comfort food for their families.

Chef Craig Wilson and his fiancee, Jacqueline Au, are venturing a few doors up Main Street in Manayunk from their bar-restaurant Maya.J to open Gigi Italian Bistro BYOB (4357 Main St., 267-323-2899).

Opening is set for Aug. 3.

Naming it after the family's nickname for his mother, Wilson bills Gigi as an homage to the mothers and grandmothers who make comfort food for their families. They're going for cozy, casual, and unpretentious, decorating with photos of friends' grandmothers. (And speaking of motherhood: Jaqi is expecting the couple's first child.)

The menu hits the Italian classics, including pizzas, pastas (also whole wheat and gluten-free options),  fish, beef, and chicken. Wilson offers "long sauces," such as gravies and marinara, as well as "short sauces" made in the pan.

Most entrees are in the $20s.

Hours are 4 to 10 p.m.  Wednesday and Thursday, 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
