Get ready for the piñata

The giant piñata sitting at Broad Street and Washington Avenue may finally be cracked open Sunday morning.

The giant piñata that's been sitting in the lot at Broad Street and Washington Avenue may finally get cracked open.

Carnival Cruise Lines had set up the 61-foot donkey to set a Guinness Record, and the idea was to open it last Sunday with a wrecking ball and film the resulting shower of candy as a Carnival TV commercial.

Problem was, too many people showed up and Philly police shut it down.

This time, the plan is to shoot the commercial early Sunday morning and to use a cast of paid extras to hoot and holler. So that means you should not show up. By the way, supposedly there's generic candy inside the piñata, as Carnival did not want to tout any name brands on camera.
