'Food trucks' come inside stadium for Union soccer games

Cheese curds and barbecue make it to the sidelines.

Union soccer crowds at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester are getting a food truck-like option at the concession stands.

Starting with the Union vs. Timbers game on Saturday, April 8, two concession stands - one on either side - will sell the wares of The Cow and the Curd and Baby Blues BBQ. The facades are being configured to resemble the sides of their trucks, down to the fold-out awnings and lights.

The idea was floated during a conversation between Cow & the Curd's Rob Mitchell, who also is president of the Philly Mobile Food Association, and Linda Reche, regional vice president with Spectra by Comcast Spectacor, which manages the stadium.

"I thought it was a natural," Reche said.

Food trucks regularly set up outside the stadium, but once a ticket-holder is inside, he or she cannot go out to purchase food.

The Cow and The Curd sells Wisconsin-style cheddar cheese curds that are beer-battered and fried, as well as Wisconsin beer brats topped with smoky beer cheese sauce and caramelized red onion on a pretzel roll.

Baby Blues BBQ sells smoked pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, Memphis-style ribs, and wings that are dry-rubbed, smoked, grilled and then basted in sauce.

Spectra's menu includes a prosciutto & brie sandwich, a hot dog, a BBQ rib dog:, a veggie steak, and gluten-free pizza.
