Food trucks and beer, together at a cancer walk

Come meet The Daily Press'd, a new panini truck, which will join six food trucks at City of Hope’s Women’s Cancer Walk.

Two big firsts will be marked Sept. 13 at the City of Hope's Women's Cancer Walk.

One is a food truck and beer-pairing competition - six trucks whose dishes will be paired with beer. Can't remember ever seeing one of those.

The other is an early chance to taste the wares of The Daily Press'd, a new panini truck that soon will be camped permanently in the city's Grays Ferry section.

The three-mile walk starts on Rutgers' campus in Camden at 9 a.m. and heads across the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. It ends at Arch Street Meeting House at Fourth and Arch Streets in Old City, where, starting at 11:30 a.m., the six trucks will be set up, dispensing food and beer. Participants can vote for their favorite, and the winning truck operator will receive a trip to St. Lucia.

Walkers will also be treated to purple cupcakes (that's the COH color), a prosecco tasting, and other snacks.

It's $25, and includes food, drink, entertainment, and swag bag. (You can do the walk and get caught up in the inspirational message, or simply show up at the end to eat.)

This year's walk, the 17th from COH, will be dedicated to the memory of Rose Julien, who died 10 months ago. She walked in previous outings with her team, dubbed the Rosebuds.

Meanwhile, Chris and Franca Mascia, with Franca's dad, Joe Criniti, are rolling out The Daily Press'd, a truck specializing in panini and Italian fare.

When it is not at public events, The Daily Press'd will be set up outside of Criniti's warehouse at 2712 Grays Ferry Ave., just off Washington Avenue. (It's next to what was Moe's Hot Dog House, and which will open this month as Aprons, a Southern restaurant.)

The Mascias met while working for restaurateur Danny Meyer in New York. She runs catering events for Tom Colicchio's Wichcraft, and he is a former executive sous chef at the Museum of Modern Art.

Besides The Daily Press'd, the truck lineup will be Dump N Roll, El Guaco Loco, Gigi and Big R's Caribbean Soul Food, The Daily Press'd, Sweet T's Cupcakes, and Sweet Lavender. The beer pairings for each truk are TBA.
