Fink's: Hoagies come to Jewelers Row

First trick is finding the place, tucked way in the back of a hallway amid a warren of jewelry shops.

People have been buying baguettes on Jewelers Row for generations.

But not the kind of baguettes you get at Fink's. These gems are Liscio's rolls, the basis of the hoagies.

Fink's, the Tacony hoagie destination, this month opened a branch at 132 S. Eighth St.

First trick is finding the place, tucked way in the back of a hallway amid a warren of jeweler's shops. Apparently, the locals have noticed, judging by the crowds. (It's a good-natured bunch. One recent midafternoon, several customers were sitting in chairs waiting for their sandwiches while a jeweler from across the street, also waiting, whipped out his loupe and evaluated one woman's ring.)

Owner Dennis Fink, a proud Vietnam-era Marine, took on this location in much the same way that he serendipitously got into the hoagie business a decade ago. He was drawn by a for-rent sign and decided to take the plunge on Princeton Avenue near Torresdale.

Fink didn't set out to add a Center City location but says customers have a connection to the Eighth Street building and offered him a good deal on the odd-shaped space, which has plenty of prep space but no table seating.

The Center City location is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and have the same prices as the Tacony shop.
