Feastival, part deux

On Wednesday night, an extravaganza for the arts community. And your tummy.

It's not easy being an arts group in a soft economy.

More than the tens of thousands of dollars raised, organizers got credibility. In a calendar of food events, Feastival stood out. Every decent restaurant got into the act to hand out nibbles -- 75 of them. Performers strolled the room. Lots of great stuff went up for auction.

This year's outing, hosted by Stephen Starr, Michael Solomonov and Audrey Claire Taichman, will be Wednesday, Sept. 14, 6 to 9 p.m., at Pier 9, 121 N. Columbus Blvd. If the $250 ticket price seems steep, consider that 500 people paid that last year and walked out more than happy. And consider what this event does for the local arts community.

This year, besides the 75 restaurants/chefs (including Terence Feury, Jose Garces, Georges Perrier, Michael Schulson, Daniel Stern and Marc Vetri), organizers are promising a performance by choreographer Brian Sanders, live painting by the Mural Arts Program, and a circus performance by Montreal's 7 Fingers.
