The Subway chain compares its nutrition facts against those of the fast-food giants.

Enter the Falafel Factory, a takeout due to open in mid-January at 32 S. 18th St., in the now-closed Joseph's Shoes shop.

Owner Rob Rimeris says his baked falafel has less fat, sugar, cholesterol, and sodium than a 6-inch turkey from Subway -- and is 30 percent larger, to boot.

Falafel Factory, Rimeris' first restaurant undertaking, will be simple: six falafel sandwiches (fried as well as baked, in such varieties including Hawaiian and BBQ), three sides, and beverages.

See menu here.

Good luck Falafel Factory. Mama's falafel is the best in the city.

I agree with birdp00p on this one. Why open a falafel joint a couple of blocks away from the best one in the city? I remember there was one on Sansom that didn't last very long, probably because of its close proximity to Mama's. How about spreading the falafel love, Rob Rimeris? I'd love to see one opened on Spring Garden, perhaps around 15th and 16th *hint hint*. And while I know it won't be a Mama's; I'm sure it will satisfy my falafel cravings!

Why? Location. I will definitely try them after they open. Sounds like a nice alternative to Midtown (next door) and Continental Midtown (down the street at 18th & Chestnut Sts.)
