Michael and Dino Kelly-Cataldi are behind the sumptuous Dino's Backstage & Celebrity Room (287 N. Keswick Ave., Glenside, 215-884-2000), a '40s-style supper club/cabaret next to the Keswick Theater. It's across from their home-furnishings shop, Kelly-Cataldi HOME, in Keswick Village.
The project - $1.5 million and nearly two years in the making - combines the couple's pasts and passion. Dino, with a former partner, created and ran the elegant Napoleon Cafe - first incongruously in Port Richmond in the late 1980s and later, as Napoleon, at 15th and Locust Streets in Center City. Michael sings the Great American Songbook.
There are four areas to have dinner and drinks: the dining room, the bar, the outdoor lounge and patio, and the Celebrity Room.
Chef Scott Howlett's menu is Italian-American, with entrees priced from $24 for the chicken Milanese to $49 for a 16-ounce Angus ribeye.
Hours are 5 p.m. to midnight Wednesday to Sunday.
Wednesday's feature is Paula Johns at 8 p.m. ($15 cover/$20 food and beverage minimum).
Thursdays, starting at 7 p.m., is an open mic "cattle call," where amateurs either provide three copies of their music for the Tom Adams Trio or simply know the key of a widely sung song. There's no cover, but there is a $20 food/drink minimum.
Friday and Saturday are reserved for headliners, with once a month being national headliners. (Before you sneer, "Glenside," be aware that Billy Stritch performed in the Celebrity Room two weekends ago.)
Sunday, the owner (billed as Michael Richard Kelly) gets into the act for a 7 p.m. show. There is a $15 entertainment cover, and a $20 food and beverage minimum.
