Did Deptford woman invent a $1 million Lay's potato chip?

Meneko Spigner McBeth says she drew on her Japanese heritage in conjuring up Lay’s Kettle Cooked Wasabi Ginger Potato Chips.

Frito-Lay, the potato chip company, is crowd-sourcing a new flavor of Lay's, and a Deptford nurse is one of four finalists.

Meneko Spigner McBeth says she recalled her Japanese grandmother as she conjured up Lay's Kettle Cooked Wasabi Ginger Potato Chips.

On Monday, July 28, she will be joined by Lay's in Deptford Mall to celebrate her potato chip. The event will be open to the public.

McBeth's chips are up against Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese, Cappuccino and Wavy Mango Salsa for the $1 million prize.

From July 28 to Oct. 18, consumers may vote once each day for a flavor on www.DoUsAFlavor.com; via Twitter, Instagram and/or Vine using the hashtags #SaveBaconMac, #SaveCappuccion, #SaveWasabi, #SaveMango; and/or via text message by texting "Bacon Mac," "Cappuccino," "Wasabi" or "Mango" to 24477 (CHIPS).

Parade mag reports that during last year's campaign, Cheesy Garlic Bread beat out Chicken & Waffles and Sriracha as the winner and is now a permanent chip flavor in the Lay's line.

The four top-sellers are: Original, Barbecue, Cheddar & Sour Cream and Sour Cream & Onion.
