DVR alert: Downey's on Spike TV's 'Bar Rescue'
A premiere date has been set for the makeover of the bar, open since Jimmy Carter was in the White House.
Miami-based bar/resto consultant Jon Taffer was here in May to shoot episodes for Spike TV's new series Bar Rescue -- yes, it's a makeover show.
First, he worked his magic on Downey's, which has sat at Front and South Streets since Jimmy Carter was in the White House. Then, he shook up Swanky Bubbles in Old City, reflagging it as the still-femme-friendly Sheer.
Spike has announced that July 24 (10 p.m.) will be the premiere for the Downey's episode.
Meanwhile, the Daily News reports that Downey's owes the city nearly $126,000 in back taxes.
