Cued up: Baby Blues BBQ

The University City joint opens Friday.

Baby Blues BBQ, the first East Coast location of a West Coast barbecue themer run by former Philadelphians, is looking at the weekend of Oct. 15 for its public opening.

It's inside the double-wide rowhouse that previously housed Le Bus and Bubble House at 3402-04 Sansom St. in University City. House-smoked meat will be done in Memphis and Texas styles.

These guys  -- brothers Steve and Danny Fischer -- wasted no time in getting themselves into the Philly spirit, naming one sandwich after WIP's Glen Macnow, the sandwich fancier. It's filled with pulled pork, sharp cheese, topped with coleslaw and honey-soaked hot peppers. They've assigned "The Gargano" (after colleague Anthony Gargano) to a beef ribs.

Here's the menu, whose platter pricing is a bit north of the local norm. Featured dessert is banana pudding.
Here's wine/beer list, which features Miller High Life, PBR, Yuengling Black & Tan and Sapporo in cans, "too many" bottles to mention, and brews on tap such as Miller Lite, Yuengling, Blue Moon, Lagunitas Pilsner, and Yards IPA.

It will be open for dinner/late night only during its first couple of weeks.
