Cook, the demo/collaborative kitchen that opened last week at 20th and Rittenhouse, has issued its October schedule, studded with appearances by local culinary lights such as Pierre Calmels of Bibou (teaching French cooking), Patrick Feury of Nectar (pickling), and Moon Krapugthong of Chabaa Thai Bistro (Thai). It's sponsored by Philadelphia Magazine. I had an absolute blast hosting Michael Solomonov's Israeli demo Saturday night -- a four-hour chow-and-chat-fest for 16 people that started with Hummus and Laffa and wrapped with Roasted Peaches in Honey, Orange Blossom, Kataifi, Ricotta. Very intimate, very well-run yet very unscripted. Marc Vetri dropped by to see his old line cook and just happened to be carrying a copy of his cookbook, due out Nov. 1. Look for a video here shortly. I'm also scheduled to host Oct. 5's Pasta 101 class with Gianluca Demontis of Melograno.

An orange liquor app is posted on the window of the former Hot Potato Cafe in Fishtown. New tenants are publicity-shy at the moment, but the projected use is a whiskey bar, similar to the one that they run in New York City.

Say farewell to Trattoria Alla Costiera, which had a five-year run at Passyunk and Catharine, across from Cochon.

Mugshots Coffeehouse has done a wee shuffle. Its Manayunk location has closed, but a new shop will open (tentatively around Sept. 24) at 1520 Cecil B. Moore Ave., just off Temple's campus.

There used to be hundreds of whiskey bars in Fishtown serving Carstairs, Fleischman's, Imperial, 4 Roses and others. What happened?
