Coming soon: The Treemont and Cafe Ynez

Chip Roman is readying his bilevel bistro in Center City as Jill Weber and Evan Malone fine-tune their Mexican cafe in South Philadelphia.

Two restaurants are gunning for openings on Monday, April 14:

Chip Roman (Blackfish, Mica, Ela, Tradestone Cafe/Confections) is opening The Treemont in the former Tietra space at 231 S. 15th St. (just above Locust Street, in the Aria building). He and partner Victor Fellus moved the staircase from the south wall to the north wall of the restaurant, which afforded more seating. They also brightened the second floor. Roman describes the food - executed by chef de cuisine Rob Sidor - as reminiscent of the seafood-centric, modern American style of Blackfish and Mica but "price-conscious." He hopes to appeal to the neighbohood

Jill Weber and Evan Malone (Jet Wine Bar and Rex 1516) are putting finishing touches on Cafe Ynez, a Mexican spot inside Malone's NextFab Studio at 2025 Washington Ave. It will serve breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner and will specialize in Mexican coffees and rotisserie chicken. It will be BYOB.

Also, Volver - Jose Garces' spot in the Kimmel Center - opens its bar Wednesday, April 9.
