Coffee House Too Cafe expands into Northern Liberties

It's now cooking at Fifth and Fairmount. Full breakfast and lunch menu includes the signature hangover hoagie

Coffee House Too Cafe, which grew from a simple coffee/takeout at York and Belgrade Streets in Fishtown in 2011 into a sit-down restaurant and coffee bar, has opened its second location.

It's at the northwest corner of Fifth Street and Fairmount Avenue in Northern Liberties  (267-930-7935). It's taken the spot last used two years ago by Popolino, whose predecessor was Lafayette Bistro.

Sal Licastri, who spent a couple of decades as a regional manager for Pizzeria Uno before taking a break, had started as a silent partner backing the worker bee, Derick Warren. But as the business "blew up," in Licastri's words, he got drawn back into the operations end.

They decorated on the quaint side, using reclaimed wood (including full-size interior doors) for tables, mismatched mugs, and white tablecloths protected by glass.

Full breakfast and lunch menu includes the signature hangover hoagie, which piles three eggs, garlic butter, Cheddar, hash browns made with pepper and onions, and a choice of breakfast meat on a long roll. There are cheesesteak, vegetarian, and fajita versions, as well.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 8;30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends. On the first Friday of every month, it's BYOB dinner night from 5 to 10 o'clock.
