Chickie's Deli to close

Henry George says Saturday, April 11 will be the last day of operation for Chickie's Italian Deli, the hoagie mecca he has owned for more than 21 years at 1014 Federal St.

Widely credited for its veggie hoagies, Chickie's - and its building - had been on the market for more than a year. The sale was precipitated by divorce.

George, who thanked his customers and employees on Facebook, said he had no immediate plans to open elsewhere.

The building has been sold; it most recently was listed at $500,000 after going on the market in January 2014 for $750,000.

A new food business, not necessarily a deli, will open in the space.
