Cherry Hill getting a new brewery

Forgotten Boardwalk Brewing hopes to be offbeat.

A start-up microbrewery will begin construction soon in Cherry Hill Business Park, in what was the first home of Flying Fish Brewing Co. before its move to larger digs in Somerdale.

Co-owner Jamie Queli, an institutional banker by day and homebrewer by night, calls it Forgotten Boardwalk Brewing. "We hope to be offbeat," she said, adding that the tasting room would have a 19th-century vibe with old-fashioned funhouse-style games. As for beers, "we'll do flavor profiles that are not out there."

She and her silent partner will aim for 5,000 barrels in the first year.

Queli, a Jersey Shore native who now lives in New Jersey near New York City (and soon will relocate), said they scouted locations throughout the region.

Though with their boardwalk theme it would have been logical to set up at or near the shore, "Cherry Hill greeted us with open arms," she said. "We don't have to educate them after Flying Fish was here."

The project, whose first batches are many months away, needs a brewmaster - in Queli's words, someone who will speak up and "tell me when I'm doing something wrong."
