Chef turning a Pine St. pizzeria into Bocconcini, an Italian BYOB

The name means "little bites" - reflecting the menu of small plates, house-made pastas, and 10-inch pizzas.

While working at Giorgio on Pine in 2015, chef Crystal Fox helped owner Giorgio Giuliani open Giorgio Pizza on Pine on the other side of the entrance of the Beacon Hill Apartments.

Now she is taking over the pizza shop, at 1334 Pine St.

Fox will call it Bocconcini ("little bites" in Italian). It will serve small plates, house-made pastas, and 10-inch pizzas. Fox says Giorgio on Pine will remain as a sister restaurant but emphasizes that they will be operated independently.

Giorgio on Pine, a rustic, Roman-style trattoria, is one of Center City's better BYOB bargains and a theater-crowd favorite. Bocconcini will be more casual.

Giorgio Pizza on Pine will close Feb. 5 and will reopen as Bocconcini on Thursday, Feb. 9. It will be open for lunch and dinner Tuesday to Sunday, closed Monday.
