Chazz Palminteri tours Italian Market

Actor Chazz Palminteri, in town Thursday to promote A Bronx Tale, his one-man show coming to the Prince Music Theater Sept. 19-21, told friends that he wanted to visit an Italian neighborhood in Philly.

So after a morning of interviews and a visit to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to be part of WOGL's Radiothon, restaurateur Barry Gutin hooked him up with Epiphany "Pip" DeLuca, owner of Villa Di Roma in the Italian Market.

DeLuca, who grew up around the corner from his restaurant, led Gutin and Palminteri on a two-hour tour, including the walk-in refrigerators at Cannuli's House of Pork where the whole Sicilian pigs are stored before roasting. Claudio's, Esposito's, Isgro's, even to Ralph's (yes, a competitor).

"Couldn't have been nicer - and everybody had their cell phones out to get a picture with him," said DeLuca, who may be the last restaurateur in town who does not have a cell phone .
