Cedars in Queen Village reopens after a renovation

One of the city's oldest Lebanese restaurants has been decluttered. The men is still a good value.

After nearly 30 years on Second Street below South in Queen Village, Cedars owner Ghassan Sawan said the restaurant needed a change.

Cedars, one of the city's oldest Lebanese restaurants, has reopened after a summer-long, top-to-bottom renovation. The overall layout is similar but it's been decluttered. The tables, banquettes, and even the ceiling are new.

Before the renovation, Sawan and his four brothers (who also own Byblos and Vango near Rittenhouse Square, and the neighboring Fez) gave up the liquor license, so Cedars is now BYOB. The former bar area has been converted into a table for larger parties.

Menu still focuses on generously portioned Middle Eastern specialties such as moussaka, shish kebobs, and falafel. Entree prices top out at $16.

It's open from 1 p.m. through dinnertime daily.
