Camera thief caught on camera

An inspector obviously thought he had a license to steal.

A crazy tale out of Kraftwork, the beer-focused bar coming to Girard and Montgomery Avenues in Fishtown:

Chef Michael Thomas noticed that his camera, which he was certain he had left on the bar, was missing last week.

Thomas reviewed the security video, and -- lo and behold -- saw that an underwriter inspector who had stopped in to check the place for the city had sidled up to the bar and, behind his back, deftly slid the silver digital camera into his pocket.

Thomas called the inspector's supervisor, and the inspector -- pleading that he thought he had actually picked up his phone from the bar -- returned it with an apology last Thursday. (I was there, and admired Thomas' restraint with the guy.)

Doesn't a small-business operator have enough to worry about besides losing photos of his pregnant wife?
