Bud & Marilyn's coming to 13th and Locust

A year and a half ago, 13th Street restaurant pioneers Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran took over the spaces beneath the Independent Hotel at 13th and Locust Streets that briefly had Fish and Rhino Bar.

Last fall, they opened Nonna's, an Italian spot, in the former Fish space on the Locust Street side.

With their renovation at Lolita up the street behind them - and Barbuzzo, Jamonera and their retail shops humming along - they have finally disclosed their plans for the corner:

Bud & Marilyn's will go back to a simpler time in America, just as Nonna's is a throwback.

Bud & Marilyn's is named after Turney's grandparents, Bud and Marilyn Briese, who in 1950 opened a restaurant called The Spot in Ripon, Wis. After Bud died in 1987, Marilyn ran it till 1990, when she sold it. She passed away two months ago at age 93.

Bud & Marilyn's projected opening is by the end of this year.
