Best burger in Philly?

POSTED: Friday, June 3, 2011, 5:44 PM

"Who serves the best burger?"

That's a question that you can help answer on June 4 at Burger Brawl, a burger-making contest designed as a fundraiser for Meredith Elementary School in Queen Village.

Rob and Maggie Wasserman, who own Rouge and 500 Degrees and whose son Jonah attends the school, wrangled 18 burger specialists to do the sizzling.

The Brawl, sponsored in part by Philly.com, will be start at 2 p.m. in Meredith's schoolyard, 725 S. Fifth St.

Attendees (it's a $60 ticket) will get to judge, as will Food Network host Marc Summers, Eagles star Winston Justice, and Fox29's Mike Jerrick. Tickets are being sold through TicketLeap.com. Walk-ups are also welcome.

Also sponsoring are Sysco, Fiji Water, Kaiserman Co., Philadelphia's Children's First Fund, Comcast-Spectacor, Klehr Harrison Harvey Branzburg, Liberty Spirits, Electronic Ink, and the Bancorp Bank.

The complement of burger flippers will represent 10 Arts, 500 Degrees, Adsum, Alfa, Barbuzzo, Butcher & Singer, Good Dog, Ladder 15, London Grill, Midatlantic, North Third, Paesano's, Pub & Kitchen, PYT, Rouge, Royal Tavern, and Table 31.

Any comments or suggestions for other worthy burger shops to invite to a future Brawl?

This is a logical next step in the Philly burger wave of popularity. It's cool that these restaurants are coming together for a worthy cause!

I may be low class but my choice is Five Guys. I can spend $5.79 and get an awesome cheeseburger with about 20 different toppings available. I will put it up against any one of those snooty, overpriced burgers that have carmelized onions and feta cheese.

imo 5 guys IS overpriced...rather spend 3-5$ more and get a better burger from a nicer place

Which do you prefer Five Guys' medium rare or Five Guys' medium well?

Good Dog Bar's burger is amazing! Worth the drive into the city, no Bobby Flay's Burger Palace on the listing? There's plenty of good talent in that field though..

i have enjoyed the roayl tavern burger most of all these, but good dog is very strong. unfortunately, the gooey cheese has burnt my tongue on a few occasions.
