Attend philly.com/Food's launch event, win a dinner

See four chef demos (and the Phanatic) at Thursday's philly.com/Food debut at Reading Terminal Market. It's free.

Thursday, July 7 is launch day at philly.com/Food, and as we throw the switch, we'll back it up with a free, star-studded lunchtime benefit in the center court of Reading Terminal Market.

And there's dinner in it for you.

Four hot hometown chefs with national reputations -- Camden-born Aaron McCargo Jr., Willingboro's Kevin Sbraga, Northeast Philly's Jennifer Carroll, and the Virginia ham himself, Jack McDavid -- will do demos on the half-hour starting at 11 a.m. We also expect the Phillie Phanatic in the noontime hour.

Also on site will be reps of Philabundance, MANNA, and The Food Trust -- three of the "Good Eggs" whose work we're showcasing at philly.com/Food -- as well as people from the new Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market and Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp.

Though the demos are free to watch, you're encouraged to buy a portion for $5. Every dime goes to MANNA and The Food Trust. Reading Terminal Market will donate all the money dropped into Philbert the Pig's box, for the month of July, to the nonprofits.

There's more happening after the final demo.

Just after 1 p.m., trucks from kindhearted local food companies will stop on 12th Street outside the market, where a Philabundance truck will be parked. We're expecting a truckload of food to be sent off to Philabundance. We call this event "Thanks Giving in July" because the bulk of food-related fundraising occurs around Thanksgiving; why can't we help out in the summer, when in many cases the need is greater.

So with all that, how about a contest.

Come out to the event on Thursday, and keep your eyes open.

Answer the following three questions in an email to me at mklein@philly.com.

1. What color shirt did Aaron McCargo Jr. wear?

2. What dish did Jennifer Carroll prepare?

3. Name the secret word, which will be displayed on a sign on the stage.

Send your answers by noon Friday to be entered to win a $100 gift card to 10 Arts by Eric Ripert at the Ritz-Carlton.
