An early look at Canton 11 in Chinatown

It's actually three businesses in one: a dim sum restaurant, a branch of the Chatime bubble-tea chain, and a subterranean karaoke bar called Lair KTV.

One of the most ambitious restaurants in recent memory has to be Canton 11, a polished, swellegant operation taking over three floors of one enormous building at 1025 Arch St., near the Convention Center.

Right now, the bright and bubbly Chatime is open, as is Canton 11's glittery first floor, which is serving lunch, dinner, and late night. Work continues on a sushi bar behind Chatime, on the second-floor banquet rooms (each of which can accommodate hundreds of patrons), and downstairs on the eight karaoke rooms.

Traditional menu hits the basics, mixing a few Americanized dishes such as General Tso's chicken ($13.95) among the Cantonese fare.

It's BYOB for now.
