Southwark gets a sexy sibling, Ambra

Ambra will serve a four-course, $65 prix-fixe menu Thursday through Sunday - a choice of two antipasti, a first and second course, and dessert.

Chris D'Ambro and Marina de Oliveira are not only rolling with Southwark, their upmarket-yet-casual American at Fourth and Bainbridge Streets in Queen Village.

On Sept. 29, they open Ambra, a 16-seat shoebox-size salon, a few doors down the block, at 705 S. Fourth St. (267-858-9232, and via the Reserve app). The Southwark-Ambra space is actually contiguous, through the rear of the property.

This is special-occasion dining - low-lit, intimate.

Ambra will serve a four-course, $65 prix-fixe menu Thursday through Sunday - a choice of two antipasti, a first and second course, and dessert. D'Ambro, who bills the menu as modern, refined Italian, says amuses-bouche and canapes will be served as soon as patrons are seated, to start the experience promptly. Wines and beers will be available. There is a $35 beverage supplement.

Reservations start at 6 p.m. and run on the half-hour through 9 p.m.

Here's the debut menu.

D'Ambro's brother Joseph did all the construction work, selecting different woods for the tables, finishings, and copper-clad counter (which has a poured-concrete base), laying a wooden floor, and installing custom cabinetry along the rear wall. Along one wall, sheer white fabric is draped over glowing lightboxes - a light fixture that pays tribute to Fourth Street's history as Fabric Row.
