A Shake Shack for Drexel

Shake Shack - the burger chain that opened last summer at 20th and Sansom Streets - is indeed opening in University City - taking space at Drexel at 3200 Chestnut St.

A spokesman confirmed this to me. Timeline is late summer/early fall.

Shake Shack will join another New York-rooted operation there, Joe Coffee Bar.

This means competition for Bobby's Burger Palace at 40th and Chestnut on Penn's campus, as well as Drexel hangouts Spencer's ETA Burger at 34th and Powelton and the Spotburgers truck at 33d and Arch. To which Spotburgers says on Twitter: "BRING IT ON!!!"

Looks like the Sansom Street location is doing well. Glad Philly is proving to be a good market for Shake Shack!

Who needs Shake Shack, when you have Bobby's Burger Palace? Shake Shack doesn't even have turkey burgers!

The owners realized that many of the Northeasts fat people reside here in Philly. So being the great people they are helping to feed the folks while creating high paying jobs... right?

Why in the hell would anyone wait in line for an overpriced burger? There are a million places to get a good burger without the hour-long wait. There is nothing that they could possibly do with a burger that justifies that kind of wait. This is a great example of suckers falling for Madison Ave hype.

Pretty awful, think I'd rather have a Nifty Fifty or Five Guys Burger than this overrated/overpriced yuppie junk.

Just what this city needs. More shakes, burgers and fries for an obese populous.
