A Garces-Starr battle in NYC?

Brookfield Office Properties Inc. announced last night that Iron Chef Garces will open in 2015 in Brookfield Place, down the street from Starr's planned El Rey.

They compete for the upmarket restaurant dollar in Philly.

Now the stage is being set for competition in New York City between Stephen Starr and his onetime chef Jose Garces.

Brookfield Office Properties Inc. announced last night that the Iron Chef will open in 2015 in Brookfield Place, the development also known as the World Financial Center near the former World Trade Center.

A press release says Garces' restaurant would occupy a prime location on Vesey Street among the new collection of 40 retailers. There will also be waterfront terrace dining with 14 chef-driven quick-service eateries and a French-inspired gourmet marketplace operated by Peter Poulakakos.

No concept for the new Garces restaurant has been announced.

Meanwhile, Starr is a few months from opening an enormous branch of his El Vez just down Vesey Street in Battery Park CIty.

History here: After moving to Philadelphia to open Alma de Cuba for chef Douglas Rodriguez and Starr, Garces moved on to become opening chef at El Vez.

The rest is history.
