Former Pod chef Hiroyuki “Zama” Tanaka says neighborhood approval has come through for Zama, his Japanese restaurant that will take over for Loie on 19th Street between Sansom and Walnut.

With Loie closed after business Sat 8/22, Tanaka says construction will begin shortly, with a target of late October.

Here's the first word of the project. Tanaka is not aiming for what he calls Japanese "confusion" but for authentic Japanese cuisine.

Reese Witherspoon isn't all about those fancy dinners on Rittenhouse Square.

She and kids joined the Saturday lunch rush at the Ruby's Diner by Suburban Square in Ardmore, near her Main Line rental.

Sometimes, a burger amid screaming young'uns and a blaring jukebox is all you need on a muggy Saturday.

The Phillies believe in recycling.

Rather than toss the old clubhouse carpet from last season, the team has chopped it into 18-by-24-inch pieces.

Last week, the hunks -- decorated with player numbers in authentic uniform fonts, World Series Champions patches and the MLB authentication program hologram stickers -- went on sale at the game-used collectibles kiosk behind Section 126 in the ballpark.

Corbin Evans, who did a longtime chef turn around here before moving to New Orleans from 1999 to 2008, is behind a benefit for the Brandhurst family, who've been in the Gulf shrimping business for generations and whose patriarch has lung cancer.

Coinciding with the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina -- which did a number on the shrimping business -- Evans has gathered his Philly allies for a community shrimp boil and fundraiser, from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 29 at Greensgrow Urban Farm in Kensington.

He'll cook the shrimp (donated by the Louisiana Seafood & Marketing Board) and red beans and rice. Philadelphia Brewing has kicked in the beer, David Katz of Mémé will provide its signature fried chicken (because what's a shrimp boil without chicken?), Michael McNally of London Grill will do slaw, and Carolynn Angle at Standard Tap will put out bread pudding.

Here's the latest on Zavino, a tiny pizza-wine bar under construction in the former check-cashing agency on the northwest corner of 13th and Sansom. (The project surfaced early last month with the fancier spelling 'Za Vino.)

It's up for October.

Chef/managing partner Steve Gonzalez is positioning it as an Italian pizza kitchen and wine bar with a seasonal menu, classic cocktails (Negroni and Bellini), and what he calls an approachable selection of wine and beer. Hours will be 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., and he'll target late-night noshers. The whole place will seat 38, including about a dozen at the bar.

Stephen Starr has selected the name of his pizzeria coming to the old Cosi at Second and Lombard Streets in Society Hill.

It'll be called Stella Pizza. (Not "Pizza Select," as he intimated back in April, though the name on corporate papers is Select Restaurant Partners LP.)

I happened upon the name while surfing job ads on Craigslist. Starr confirmed it this afternoon. A commenter also points out that it means star in Italian.

That splash of blaze orange on the front of the Wrap Shack on the Square (120 S. 18th St.) means just one thing:

A liquor license is on the way.

Owner Scott Hockfield told me that he expects the license in about four weeks. It will allow him to broaden the menu (to "bread products," as in regulation sandwiches) and attract a sports-on-TV-loving crowd.

Daddy Mims Creole in Phoenixville will pair up with Twisted Leaf Cigars next door for a five-course Creole meal on Sept. 10.

The pairings are not wines, or single malts, or beers.

But cigars.
