Props to chef Lucas Manteca, who managed to sign a lease for the former Gayle space at 617 S. Third St. in Queen Village, design a menu, redecorate, and get open -- all in the space of five weeks.

Hoof + Fin, a BYOB, opened last night.

Look is rustic, with suspended clear, Edison-style lightbulbs, butcher-block tables, and gobs of tchotchkes.

And neighborhood-friendly prices.

Manteca's culinary resume ranges from Costa Rica to the Ebbitt Room at the Virginia Hotel in Cape May and his own places (Sea Salt and Quahog's Seafood Shack in Stone Harbor).

It's open from 5 p.m. daily, except for Tuesdays (closed).

Here's the menu.

I had dinner on friday night with some friends and I was pleasently surprised! The food was awsome, the hamachi tiradito and the beef seviche were a big hit in our table. The empanadas were very good especialy the corn one that was so creamy and cheese that I had dreams about it that nite. I also tasted the polenta and the gnocchi wich were equally good! And as my main course I had from their charbroil grill a perfectly cooked bone in ribeye with a side of brussel sprouts and a parsnip puree that was out of this world! Cant wait to try their brunch next sunday!!
