Phils' Jayson Werth fleece blanket giveaway postponed

POSTED: Sunday, May 10, 2009, 10:22 AM
The design for the blanket. (Phillies)

The Phillies got a big surprise the other day when they opened the boxes containing 25,000 Jayson Werth fleece blankets that were to be given away today as a Mother's Day promo:

His lips came out bright pink.

The team says the plan is to give women 15 and over a coupon that can be redeemed for the blanket after July 24 at Guest Services or the Majestic Clubhouse Store at the ballpark. They can redeem the coupon up until December 31, 2009.

Today, women 15 and over will receive an 8”x10” print from the tux shoot that the team had in Clearwater.

The giveaway's sponsor, by the way, is Motrin.

The blankets with pink lips were in honor of the woman he blasted in the face with a homerun ball on saturday, giving her a fat pink lip

It's still not as bad as the Marlins giving out Mike Jacobs jerseys on Jewish Fan Appreciation Night -- without asking first if he was Jewish, which he isn't.

They should have just gave them out, pink lips and all! As I remember Chase Utley's blanket wasn't the best designed thing in the world either, next year give the ladies a nice pink ballcap!

for all you haters out there its a free gift so shut up and take it....such things like that, that have a small flaw years down the line are worth money to collectors. so shut your trap and enjoy mothers day.

i thought his "lip" problem on the blanket would be that he had a big wad of dip in it. like most of the time.

Give them out anyway AND the coupon with the photo shoot. Mother's Day equals pink equals breast cancer awareness. They're only going to be destroyed when they send them back anyway.

Werth is hilarious. He was encouraging the fans to give a Braves fan a forearm shiver yesterday after the dude caught a ball Werth threw into the crowd. Classic.

Overseas job...no communication between USA vendor and foreign source on the colors to be used. What a waste.
