Tap House coming to University City

Yo, beer heads. Would you believe 75 on tap at 39th and Walnut?

Tap House coming to University City

Here's my vote for the most happening part of the city: University City.

You have Avram Hornik opening a pizzeria/lounge at the former O'Hara's at 39th and Chestnut. There's The Blockley, a pour house, coming soon to 38th and Ludlow.

Now I'll tell you about Tap House. Brian Harrington of Public House, Mission Grill and Field House says he is taking over a space in the Radian at 39th and Walnut for a beer-centric pub. (Yes, same building as Capogiro, opening in April.)

Harrington, aiming at Aug. 1 to snare the returning college crowd, plans 75 U.S. and Euro craft beers on tap at this huge establishment, which will have 7,000 square feet of space inside and 5,500 square feet outside in a setting he hopes to keep open 10 months a year. (Six fire pits.)

Tap House also will have a tasting lounge with its own 12-tap beer system for private parties. Design by Partridge Architects (Chickie's & Pete's designer of choice) will utilize reclaimed wood from a barn. It's aiming at greenness. "We're going for carbon minimum," Harrington says.

Menu will include wood-fired pizzas and rotisserie items ("healthy proteins").
