24: Jose Garces' next restaurant is coming to 2401 Walnut

He's calling it 24.

Few restaurateurs take as much time to open as Jose Garces and his crew.

The Olde Bar and Volver took months, as details painstakingly were worked out.

His next Philadelphia project is at least two years in the making.

It was February 2014 when Garces let on that he was developing a cafe for the ground-floor space at 2401 Walnut St., now his company's headquarters.

From that building, you can look across the bridge over the Schuylkill into University City.

Now, the restaurant has a name - 24, as in the cross street - and a concept - "health-conscious wood-fired fare," plus a bar.

Garces hopes to open during the second quarter of 2016.

A research and development kitchen for Garces and his culinary team will also be located adjacent to the space, which can lead to interesting menu choices.

Garces has said that patrons at the restaurant will get to sample menu items that are in the testing phase.
