Blue Bell Inn shuts for renovations

Blue Bell Inn in Montgomery County claims its founding to 1743.

Renovations to the landmark Blue Bell Inn are getting hot and heavy, so the joint will shut down until late August or early September.

Last September, developer and longtime customer Bruce Goodman bought the property at Skippack and Penllyn Blue Bell Pikes. County records peg the sale price at a shade under $1.2 million.

The seller was John Lamprecht, whose father, Johann Lamprecht, and uncle Karl Friedel bought the inn in 1945.

Goodman and associates Kevin Clib and Scott Dougherty, who own Bridget’s, a steakhouse, and KC’s Alley, a pub, in nearby Ambler, want to jazz up the traditionally staid Blue Bell Inn, hoping to shed the sobriquet "Blue Hair Inn."

Among the new features will be an outdoor bar.
