Steve's Prince of Steaks getting ready downtown

POSTED: Friday, March 1, 2013, 10:00 AM

Steve's Prince of Steaks, founded three decades ago in a corner store near Roosevelt Mall in Northeast Philly, is coming downtown.

Steve's is taking the former Krispy Kreme doughnut shop on 16th Street, across from Liberty Place.

Owner Steve Iliescu is due to soft-open on March 15. Prices will be about a buck or so higher than at the flagship at Bustleton Avenue and St. Vincent Street.

Love to see em deal those nice cuts of meat on the grill like a poker hand. Upgrade to the double meat for a nice sloppy sammich hot off the grill that is tough to beat. Good roll and fixins bar for both hot & cherry peppers, pickles, hot sauce & Ketchup to customize if you choose.
Just not a fan of the separate windows for ordering.

Reminds me of a joke, "Hey, this steak is so fresh I can still see the whip marks on it".

Steve's steaks are sub par, shop on Comly rd is filthy. John's roast pork on Snyder Ave buries all others. Seriously, no one even comes close.

I now live in Venice Fl now and sure wish I could get a good cheesesteak here. Recently read a place in Sarasota opened up and he even gets his bread flown in from Philly. Nothing better than Amorosa rolls. Hope the article proves right.

BigE - Very different meat and cheese. You won't be sorry if you try it.
Everyone else - how has no one mentioned their fries with white American? Those are TO DIE FOR!
Idiot who said healthy people don't eat like this - we do once in a while for a really big treat. We work out and eat healthy 90% of our days so that it's realistically sustainable to stay this way.

Jim's the best..think not, especially after watching the steak preparer (big bubba ) sweat into the big mound of meat...I guess he was adding Jim's special ingredients.

I never had a Prince's cheese-steak, but what will make Prince different from Phils, Pats, Genos, Ricks, Tony Luke's, Shank's and Johns.

There is no better cheesesteak in the universe. Center city is getting a big treat and Steve will kick it again as he always does. GO STEVE!!!!

Steve's is very overrated, and too expensive. I'd rather spend my money at Jim's (The best Philly cheesesteak IMO).

Steve's does a very good job in the Northeast--stay there and be the King of St. Vincent Street. Remember; Bulls make money, Bears make money and Pigs get slaughtered.

I prefer landis steak meat.......on a good roll with fried onions
prov and hot or sweet peppers on the side....NO need to spend 7.00 plus for a steak sandwhich.......I make my own homemade....its all about the roll baby.......steve's does not chop his meat he leaves it flat
I love it that way...when you chop it you tear the flavor and juices up

More garbage food for the downtown fatties. Close these places down and put in health food stores. Healthy people don't eat this stuff, it's just for the morbidly obese and tourists.

Congrats to stevie, abby and ross. This country needs more small business owners to step up and expand.

I congratulate them too, but it's a little hard for other small businesses to expand when all their President wants to do is tax them to death.

Steve's in CC does not feel right to me. I feel that my car should be subjected to repeated break ins on Bustleton or else the sandwich does not taste the same. There has to be a risk/reward

Steve's is the best. And please, don't use stock photos of cheesesteaks when referring to Steve's. They do not chop them like the dogfood in the picture, they use sliced round only.
