Steve's Prince of Steaks getting ready downtown
The Northeast Philly-rooted sandwichery is coming downtown.
Steve's Prince of Steaks getting ready downtown
Michael Klein, Philly.com
Steve's Prince of Steaks, founded three decades ago in a corner store near Roosevelt Mall in Northeast Philly, is coming downtown.
Steve's is taking the former Krispy Kreme doughnut shop on 16th Street, across from Liberty Place.
Owner Steve Iliescu is due to soft-open on March 15. Prices will be about a buck or so higher than at the flagship at Bustleton Avenue and St. Vincent Street.

a buck higher? you go up $1 every year as it is wtf!>!?>! raynesrock
Love to see em deal those nice cuts of meat on the grill like a poker hand. Upgrade to the double meat for a nice sloppy sammich hot off the grill that is tough to beat. Good roll and fixins bar for both hot & cherry peppers, pickles, hot sauce & Ketchup to customize if you choose.
Just not a fan of the separate windows for ordering. NWBeachBum
Soooooo good. Freddy
Reminds me of a joke, "Hey, this steak is so fresh I can still see the whip marks on it". ricciaje
They also make a great chicken steak. smash27
Steve's steaks are sub par, shop on Comly rd is filthy. John's roast pork on Snyder Ave buries all others. Seriously, no one even comes close. phillyboobird
That place will kill it there. Good spot for it. Poppys
I now live in Venice Fl now and sure wish I could get a good cheesesteak here. Recently read a place in Sarasota opened up and he even gets his bread flown in from Philly. Nothing better than Amorosa rolls. Hope the article proves right. floridalady1
Without question the best cheesesteaks in the area. Still waiting for them to open a location in chester county. mvp15- The truth is all these places are so so. lathe
Wasn't Pats steaks fined for selling horse meat in the 70's? donjuango
OMG! The best cheese steaks in Philly. Pats and Genos=The Grissle cheese steak=The worst , and most over-rated steaks in the city donjuango
Whats with the picture? Thats definitely not a steve's steak kenny.328.usa
best cheesesteaks hands down. disappointed they couldn't use a picture from steve's Chauncee
BigE - Very different meat and cheese. You won't be sorry if you try it.
Everyone else - how has no one mentioned their fries with white American? Those are TO DIE FOR!
Idiot who said healthy people don't eat like this - we do once in a while for a really big treat. We work out and eat healthy 90% of our days so that it's realistically sustainable to stay this way. Loves To Comment
steves IS King. no grizzle EVER. could sometimes use a few more slices on the roll but other than that Steves is the best in Philly....
@BIGE... the others are all chopped bvllshlt. Steves is sliced top notch steak. Got to try one to know. Can't explain.... dmw
Cheesesteak gastropub? suporma
Was in Philly last week and had Steve steaks, they were tasteless. PHILLY76
Jim's the best..think not, especially after watching the steak preparer (big bubba ) sweat into the big mound of meat...I guess he was adding Jim's special ingredients. mas8380
I never had a Prince's cheese-steak, but what will make Prince different from Phils, Pats, Genos, Ricks, Tony Luke's, Shank's and Johns. BigE
There is no better cheesesteak in the universe. Center city is getting a big treat and Steve will kick it again as he always does. GO STEVE!!!! shoebdo
I am a loyal subject!

Steve's is very overrated, and too expensive. I'd rather spend my money at Jim's (The best Philly cheesesteak IMO). TyroneShoes
Steve's does a very good job in the Northeast--stay there and be the King of St. Vincent Street. Remember; Bulls make money, Bears make money and Pigs get slaughtered. paulfromtheoblongtable
I prefer landis steak meat.......on a good roll with fried onions
prov and hot or sweet peppers on the side....NO need to spend 7.00 plus for a steak sandwhich.......I make my own homemade....its all about the roll baby.......steve's does not chop his meat he leaves it flat
I love it that way...when you chop it you tear the flavor and juices up merchandiser
More garbage food for the downtown fatties. Close these places down and put in health food stores. Healthy people don't eat this stuff, it's just for the morbidly obese and tourists. Sportyrider71- Yeah man. More garbage please. I don't eat food that food eats.

Will they be accepting "non-english" speaking customers? cubalaw
Congrats to stevie, abby and ross. This country needs more small business owners to step up and expand. WhizzWit- I congratulate them too, but it's a little hard for other small businesses to expand when all their President wants to do is tax them to death.

Steve's in CC does not feel right to me. I feel that my car should be subjected to repeated break ins on Bustleton or else the sandwich does not taste the same. There has to be a risk/reward ronniemund
Good news, it would be nice to have a quality steak in center city. They should do well. zippy1346
Slab steaks are like rubber dannymoe
Steve's is the best. And please, don't use stock photos of cheesesteaks when referring to Steve's. They do not chop them like the dogfood in the picture, they use sliced round only. CiceroSpuriousDeodatusTheSecond
Best steaks in the Philly area.
henry hill- Will it have the same "never in service" bathroom as the one on Comley?
IMHO, Steve's is the best, albeit pricey, steak sammich in Philly! antnyb316- St. Vincent Street makes a good old sloppy sandwich don't they. I'll take two.

It should be named Steve's Fight Club once 2AM comes. TomM
Arnie Illiescu was a great jockey when they ran at Liberty Bell. Wilhelm Von Humboldt
