Some landmarks are buildings, a few are institutions. Fewer still are living, breathing artists, but as Philadelphia's longest-running maestro, Peter Nero surely merits special status.

Thursday he got some. In an expression of the "sincere sentiments of this legislative body," Philadelphia City Council passed a resolution to "hereby recognize, honor, and thank Peter Nero for his lifetime of contributions to musical excellence and his commitment to preserving Philadelphia as a national focal point for arts and culture."

Nero stood accepting the honors in City Council Chambers as councilman-at-large James Kenney read the resolution.
