Villanova falls to 0-3 with loss to Monmouth

Things just keep getting worse for Villanova.

The Wildcats recorded just their loss in their last 26 at Villanova Stadium in a 20-9 defeat to Monmouth Saturday afternoon.

Villanova opened the game with true freshman Chris Polony under center. After Polony proved ineffective, redshirt senior Christian Culicerto entered the game midway through the second quarter.

Culicerto looked efficient — even solid at times —  but couldn’t do enough to earn Villanova (0-3) its first win of the season.

Monmouth took a 3-0 lead into halftime. The Wildcats took a 7-3 lead on a 36-yard run by Austin Medley. But hard luck — including being stopped on fourth-and-goal from the 1 yard line — ensured that Monmouth held on for the win.
