Nova swimmers compete at World games

Villanova swimmers Natalie Elphick and Roxy Tammadge will compete for their native South Africa at the 2011 World University Games, which begin Saturday in Shenzhen, China.

Elphick and Tammadge, both of whom are juniors and live in Durban, South Africa, will take to the pool on Sunday for the start of six days of swimming competition.

Elphick will compete in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter freestyle races, while Tammadge will swim in the 400, 800 and 1,500. Both women also have qualified for relay races; those teams will be chosen on site during the competition.

The two swimmers combined for four all-Big East honors at this year's conference championship, in which the Wildcats finished fourth. The pair swam on the 'Cats' 800-meter relay team that shattered the school record by more than seven seconds.  Tammadge finished third in both the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle races.
