Two Villanova athletes earned All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held over the weekend in Nampa, Idaho.

Sophomore Samuel McEntee captured fourth place in the mile but his time of 4 minutes, 1.91 seconds was only .25 seconds off the winning time. His finishing 400-meter split of 54.95 seconds topped the field.

Senior Shericka Ward finished seventh in the final of the 60-meter hurdles. Her time of 8.16 seconds matched her qualifying time.

The women’s cross country team of Villanova continued its domination of the Big East Cross Country Championships over the weekend. But this year, the Wildcats had some company.

The Villanova men’s cross country team, with five of its runners finishing in the top 13, captured the team title on that side, its first since 2002.

The women won the conference crown Saturday for the fourth consecutive year. Sheila Reid further cemented her place as perhaps Villanova’s best cross country runner of all-time, winning the individual championship for the third consecutive year.

Villanova’s Sheila Reid, who became the first woman in NCAA history to win the national outdoor championship at 1,500 and 5,000 meters in the same meet, has been named winner of the Honda Sports Award in track and field.

Reid, who won the Honda Award for cross country in December after winning the national championship in that event and leading the Wildcats to the team title, defeated three other nominees for the award and now is in the running for female college athlete of the year.

“It is very humbling to be named the Honda Sports Award winner considering the outstanding nominees that were up for the award,” Reid said in a statement released by Villanova. “For me to be named the winner from this group is an amazing honor.”
