Stuart Weitzman is coming to Rittenhouse

The shuffle of musical chairs on Walnut Street continues: Anne Klein is out. Stuart Weitzman is in.

The news was first disclosed Friday by Inquirer fashion writer Elizabeth Wellington, who noted via Twitter that Anne Klein's closing was "a big deal," especially since the store had not even been there for one year. However, the famed shopping district of Center City is welcoming another big-name retailer in its place.

High-end shoe brand Stuart Weitzman confirmed with us Monday that it's coming to 1717 Walnut Street. "We always wanted a store in downtown Philly," says Wayne Kulkin, co-chairman of the brand. "We love its vibe and energy, and we wanted to connect to this customer."

Weitzman surprisingly has direct ties with this city: It's been exactly fifty years since the renowned-and-revered shoe designer graduated from Wharton.

"Stuart also has a love of Philly as he spent time there in his college days," says Kulkin. Looks like he's bringing the love back to Rittenhouse Row.

The store is slated to open in September 2013.
