It's a rite of passage for most artists-turned-designers - to debut a collection that draws scathing reviews. Rihanna's first line for River Island was no different from Kanye West's initial foray into fashion with his presentation at Paris Fashion Week in 2011 - a line that Suzy Menkes and Cathy Horyn tore into tiny shreds.

Rihanna for River Island, which has elements of the singer splayed all over its designs with its mesh tanks and see-through tops, provides an issue for the average fashion consumer: The line was solely created for the likes of Rihanna, or copycat fans who want a piece of the songstress with their own high-slit skirts.

Better luck next time, RiRi.
