Old City is already a hot hub for local fashion and design, so it’s about a time a business, that only sourced local items, opened up shop in this bubbling part of town.

Old City is already a hot hub for local fashion and design, so it's about a time a business, that only sourced local items, opened up shop in this bubbling part of town.

Philadelphia Independents is a brand new storefront that exclusively carries handmade items made by local artists and artisans. That's everything from fashion accessories to photos, artwork, furniture and much more. Their current list of 30+ vendors includes Crossed Out Creations' urban travel-inspired necklaces, Olliver Lifestyle's inviting candles, and Wear Liberty's Philly-pride tees, just to name a few. They promise to not only be a retail store, but they hope to also give "local artists much deserved exposure to their work" and "host talks, demos and workshops on various craft techniques within the space generating a creative hub for the arts community."

The store was founded by Tiffica Benza, a Temple University Fox School of Business and Management degree holder, Ashley Peel Pinkham, a UArts grad and INDICAN brand jewelry maker, and Jennifer Provost, a Phila. U fashion apparel management/design major who recently worked with Lilly Pulitzer.

The store officially opens its doors Friday, May 2, 5 – 8 p.m. for First Friday. They are open Tuesday - Saturday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., and Sundays noon - 5 p.m. It is located at 35 N. 3rd St. in Old City. Enjoy free samples of ice cream from Franklin Fountain and candies from Shane's Confectionary. There will also be an exhibit featuring the photo-illustration work of Andrew Pinkham on the walls of their 5x5 Gallery
