Nordstrom Rack to open in Center City

The home of what was formerly Daffy's at 1700 Chestnut St. is welcoming to Philadelphia, a fresh, new retailer.

The home of what was formerly Daffy's at 1700 Chestnut St. is welcoming to Philadelphia, a fresh, new retailer.

Nordstrom Rack announced Tuesday that it's slated to open in Center City next fall. According to the release, the new Rack location will occupy the first three floors of the eight-story building.

Daffy's, which previously owned the 107,300-square-foot building, closed its doors in Sept. 2012 after 20 years located across from the Shops at Liberty. The discounted department store closed its 19 outposts including its Philly spot due to financial woes.

Prior to Daffy's, upscale department store Bonwit Teller called the historical spot, home, from 1928 to 1990.

Chestnut Street is home to numerous, hip national brands including J.Crew, Express, South Moon Under, and more.

Rack president Geevy Thomas calls 1700 Chestnut St. a "fantastic location."

He adds, "We intend to bring our very best--exciting fashion from brands our customers love at great prices--to make the most of this opportunity to serve customers at the heart of Center City."

Nordstrom Rack offers trendy apparel, accessories and shoes at plush discounts. A rep tells us that shoppers can expect to find Nordstrom customer favorites like Kate Spade, Vince Camuto and Trina Turk.

More specifics on brands and offerings will be available closer to the store opening.

This is the retailer's first location in Philly. There are other Nordstrom and Rack stores in King of Prussia, Willow Grove and Cherry Hill.
