Red carpet fashion: Who wore what to the 2013 Emmy Awards

On TV's biggest night of the year, some stars chose blues, others opted for nude hues.

On TV's biggest night of the year, some stars chose blues, others opted for nude hues. The small screen's hottest talent trickled across the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet in gorgeous designer duds, and we chronicled the best and brightest stars as Sunday evening progressed.

Upper Darby's Tina Fey made a statement in a gorgeous, custom-designed, blue Narciso Rodriguez gown with a plunging neckline and halter. Fey, a nominee for best actress in a comedy series won an Emmy for outstanding writing. She wore red to last year's Emmy Awards, this year she opted for a nice blue hue.

Meanwhile, Fey's counterpart Amy Poehler said she was wearing "a good attitude." That's our girl.

"It's my pretty princess dress, very old-fashioned," said double nominee Elisabeth Moss. The Mad Men star chopped her hair, went blonde and looked dramatic and fierce alongside her mother, who wore a slate-colored Valentino gown. She also admitted to Rancic that as a self-proclaimed reality TV junkie, she was more scared of running in to Real Housewives of New Jersey's Teresa Giudice over Matt Damon.

Presidential, indeed! Best actress in a comedy series nominee Julia Louis-Dreyfus commanded the red carpet in a sparkling, floor-length Monique Lhuillier dress, which she paired with Louboutins, an Edie Parker clutch, Martin Katz earrings, and a blinging ring by Lorraine Schwartz.

Heidi Klum had some trouble getting out of her car in a tighter, self-described "unusual" number. Klum, in a sparkly "pomegranate" Versace gown, says she chose it because it stood out to her, just like it stood out to everyone else.

HBO Girls' star Zosia Mamet strut across the red carpet in a gorgeous, floral-patterned, floor-length, custom-designed gown by Honor, a New York-based, designer fashion label. The quirky number included a tasteful-looking, strapless bra-like fabric slapped across the front of her gown.

Allison Williams of Girls opted for a classy, navy-colored Ralph Lauren dress, but offset the basic gown with crazy "menacing" Roger Vivier heels. Williams told Rancic her second time on was "a lot less stressful" compared to her first time at the Awards Show in 2012.

Voice of a generation Lena Dunham teased her dress two days ago, when she tweeted, "It's like the Delia's catalogue made a red carpet dress!" - my sister giving me the truest compliment when I showed her my Emmy look #joy." Dunham appeared in an interesting Prada dress splayed with graphics, in something we can describe as big nod to the '90s. Definitely Delia's catalogue-worthy.

Who knew, meanwhile, that Dunham and Claire Danes were such good friends? The Showtime star rocked a faux bob and a gorgeous gown with a plunging neckline. Danes paired her sophisticated, nude gown with a bold, matted orange-red lip.

Presenter Zooey Deschanel looked like a brand New Girl on the red carpet, replacing her frumpy character, Jess, with big hair, a gigantic Chanel ring, and silvery-blue J. Mendel gown with an open key-hook slit in the front and open back.

Anna Gunn, best supporting actress nominee for Breaking Bad, selected an "Old Hollywood glamour" look in a strapless Romona Keveza. Part lace, part pale-pink panel, big statement. No mom jeans for this actress, who dished to Giuliana Rancic, "It would be nice if Skyler could use some of the Breaking Bad drug money to buy nice clothes 'just once.'"

Orange is the New Black star Taylor Schilling made her way down the red carpet in a custom-made, white Thakoon number with cut-out slits on the sides.

January Jones chose a custom-designed Givenchy gown, while Anna Ferris showed up in a yellow Monique Lhuillier gown. The part worth noting in this post is the lizard broach she attached to the back of her piece. That's bold.

"I'm gonna eat my seat," said Julie Bowen, in a pale pink Zac Posen gown, who admitted that she and Sofia Vergara consult each other on what color each is wearing prior to the Emmys.

Sofia Vergara brought quite the entourage to the Emmys red carpet with 20 family members and a boyfriend in tow. The Modern Family star wore a stunning red Vera Wang gown with a plunging neckline, and "Kmart collection underwear," she shared, a nod to when her dress split at last year's Emmys.

But among the stars we live-blogged in tonight's roundup, the winner still remains Kerry Washington, People's best-dressed woman of 2013. Scandal's leading lady stunned in a gorgeous Marchesa spring 2014 gown for an instant win as the crown fashion winner of the evening.
