Isabel Marant is a Parisan designer who got her start in the 1990’s designing clothing that’s the epitome of wearable chic. She’s created a clothing culture for women who want clothes that are carefree, transitional, and classic staples with a Parisian twist.
When approached by H&M to create an exclusive collection with the international retailer, Marant was hesitant at first, but she soon realized it was a chance to give back to those who gave her a chance.
“Saying ‘yes’ was not so easy because I was thinking that I must have a language for them,” said Marant. “I was not feeling doing a collection for them to begin with but very quickly it came to me that, actually, this collaboration was a way for me to thank all of the people who have loved me.”
Isabel has put together a collection that highlights her greatest strengths and some of her best hits, with touches of black, charcoal, and gay, brightened by touches of white and red.
“The collaboration was an opportunity for me to do all of my best and favorite pieces from different seasons and collections,” she says.
The Isabel Marant for H&M collection is quintessential Marant: masculine tailoring, strong shoulders and cocooning cuts in jackets and coats, loose blouses, airy dresses, and textured knits. Skinny and cropped leather pants bring an assertiveness that’s softened by loop-knit pieces.
For the very first time, Marant has created a compact wardrobe for men. It includes precisely tailored outerwear and chunky knits, leather biker pants, western-style jeans and shirts paired with the iconic hooded sweatshirt, leaving an air of vintage Americana.
The collection comes out this Thursday, but to be truly successful in snagging a Marant piece there must be a strategy in place. The collection launches at 8 a.m. at the 1725 Walnut St location and the first 420 people in line will be given a colored bracelet that determines when it’s their time to shop, in 15 minute intervals, and will also help in the check out process. Each customer can purchase from the entire collection with a limit of four pieces of each product in store and a limit of one piece of each product online.
